Buyer - Maintenance, Repair, and Operations and VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory)

The MRO and VMI Buyer will be responsible for the efficient procurement of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials and the management of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs. This role involves sourcing, inventory management, supplier relationship management, and ensuring adequate stock levels for uninterrupted operations while utilizing VMI strategies to optimize inventory control.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sourcing and Procurement

  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for MRO materials, spare parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand MRO requirements and forecast demand accurately.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to facilitate efficient procurement processes.

2. Inventory Management

  • Monitor MRO inventory levels and ensure adequate stock availability without excess inventory.
  • Develop and implement inventory optimization strategies to reduce costs while meeting operational demands.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to forecast demand and plan inventory accordingly.

3. Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) Management

  • Implement and manage VMI programs with suppliers to optimize inventory levels and streamline replenishment.
  • Collaborate with vendors to monitor stock levels, consumption patterns, and ensure timely replenishment.
  • Analyze VMI data to forecast demand, prevent stockouts, and minimize excess inventory.

4. Inventory Control and Optimization

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels for MRO materials, ensuring availability while minimizing carrying costs.
  • Monitor inventory metrics, analyze consumption trends, and implement strategies for inventory optimization.
  • Work closely with warehouse and logistics teams to coordinate inventory movements and storage.

5. Supplier Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to quality, delivery, and service level agreements.
  • Collaborate with vendors to continuously improve processes and drive efficiency.
  • Resolve supplier-related issues, discrepancies, and conflicts effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Implement strategies to improve supplier performance and reliability.

6. Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in procurement activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, pricing, and supplier information.
  • Prepare and analyze reports on procurement KPIs, cost savings, and vendor performance.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancement in procurement.
  • Implement best practices and innovative approaches to optimize procurement processes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in procurement, preferably in MRO or related industry.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement tools/software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office (proficient in excel).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance in procurement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

This position will adhere to the Battle Motors Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This individual will work in a way that stresses the importance of preventing injury, accidents, or illnesses to themselves or co-workers by correcting or reporting unsafe situations, incidents, or occurrences to their Supervisor immediately.
