We’re currently searching for a Chief Engineering Director to oversee our Verification & Validation team. The Chief Engineering Director – Verification & Validation will be responsible for leading the team to validate full vehicle, subsystem and component performance. The team’s primary responsibility will be to evaluate vehicle systems and components and create and execute test plans (DVP&Rs), analyze results and provide reports to ensure safety, quality and compliance requirements are met.
This role is very critical to our extreme growth and the ideal candidate will be an experienced engineering manager with a business mind, strong organizational skills, a savvy leader, and familiar with heavy truck parts/automotive product validation standards and processes, product development cycles and is familiar with the intricacies of a fast-paced environment, have a strong desire for growth and be a great communicator.
Role and Responsibilities
- Manages team members performing end to end testing, verification & validation and being responsible for evaluating vehicle systems and components, creating and executing test plans (DVP&Rs), analyzing results and providing reports to ensure safety, quality and compliance requirements are met.
- Provide leadership, outstanding people skills and management to a team of production engineers and designers.
- Coach and mentor verification & validation engineers & technical team by developing best practices for the V&V team to ensure safety, quality and compliance requirements are met to align with company product development and production goals and implement a best practice team vision plan, policies, and processes to improve performance and efficiency.
- Consults with design engineering leads, assesses internal or external requirements, and studies product characteristics to select validation objectives and standards.
- Guides Engineering and Project Management teams through DVP&R development for assigned NPI or current production improvement projects.
- Establish performance and quality criteria
- Prepares protocols for validation or performance testing of new or modified individual components or systems and manufacturing equipment
- Partner and engage with internal and external collaborators, supplier management team, maintain relationships/partnerships with internal customers, peers and partners to develop strategies, goals and objectives that are consistent with the organization’s overall strategy. The position is pivotal in creating and maintaining relationships with the company’s cross functional teams supporting product development for production and working closely with those
- collaborators in problem solving, planning and forecasting activities of the team as well as reporting requirements from collaborators.
- Forecasts resource needs and makes hiring decisions. Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance team member performance and expand capabilities. Ensures employees are working effectively with all development teams. Provides on-going developmental feedback. Enforces company rules and policies regarding ethical behavior, safety, security, use of company property, time charging, etc.
- Manages the team creating and executing quality tests based on appropriate protocols, then analyzing data from validation tests to determine whether components, systems and processes meet required criteria and specifications.
- Collaborates and coordinates with appropriate departments regarding the scheduling or implementation of validation testing.
- Identifies root causes of production, product, or assembly problems.
- Work collaboratively with industrial and manufacturing engineering teams during the NPI process to ensure the highest quality products are delivered.
- Interact with suppliers, dealers, and customers as required.
- Other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- Comfortable with complex problem solving and rapidly changing priorities.
- Comfortable in high pressure environments during rapid ramp up periods (as is the case during next six months)
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field desired. Equivalent education and experience required.
- Experience in product development in automotive/heavy truck battery electric vehicle powertrains required.
- 7+ years of experience working with automotive/truck or heavy equipment testing/validation/verification required, Class 7/8 truck chassis highly desired.
- 4 years of DVP&R development and execution experience required.
- 3-D CAD proficiency required; SolidWorks experience desired.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required; experience using ERP and CRM programs desired.
Preferred experience and skills
- Strong technical skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to effectively work as part of a team with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Organizational skills and the ability to manage several different tasks/projects simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate across the organization and lead presentations.
- Recognize the Quality Management System in place at Battle Motors and participate in the processes and procedures in the QMS ISO 9001:2015
This position will adhere to the Battle Motors Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
