We are currently searching for a Cost Engineer specializing in part and assembly cost prediction to join our team, to help us grow and scale and continue our tradition of success. The Cost Engineer is responsible for conducting cost analysis for new part and assembly designs. This person also will play a critical role in compiling total truck cost predictions in support of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. This is a senior engineering position that will have the opportunity to build systems and procedures around cost tracking for Battle Motors.

This role is very critical to our extreme growth and the ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer with a business mind, a savvy leader, very organized, and familiar with heavy truck parts/automotive product development and is familiar with the intricacies of a fast-paced environment, have a strong desire for growth and be a great communicator. 

This position is a hybrid role that can be conducted in a remote location primarily but will require regular travel to the Battle Motors facility in New Philadelphia, OH.   

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop should-cost models to produce piece part and assembly cost estimations to support NPI and Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) activities.
  • Lead Design for Cost (DFC) activities at Battle Motors by consulting product design engineers on best practices to design cost-effective metal and composite parts.
  • Support company cost reduction initiatives by generating VAVE project ideas and by creating cost savings estimates.
  • Support development of new truck platforms by creating costed Bills of Material (BoM), and leading product cost roll-up through various levels of maturity (estimates, should-cost, quotes).
  • Participate in negotiations between Purchasing and suppliers by providing expertise on cost drivers and process optimization.
  • Support competitive product teardowns by performing cost analyses for piece part cost and vendor tooling investments.
  • Interact with suppliers, dealers, and customers as required.
  • Other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Be comfortable with complex problem solving and rapidly changing priorities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field desired.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in cost engineering in the automotive, commercial truck, or heavy equipment industry is required. Class 6/7/8 truck chassis is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of common supplier base production technologies, including those for metal (forming, welding, casting, stamping, etc.) and composites (injection molding, blow molding, roto molding, etc.)
  • 3-D CAD proficiency required; SolidWorks or CREO experience desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required; experience using ERP and CRM programs desired.

Preferred experience and skills

  • Strong technical skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to effectively work as part of a team with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage several different tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate across the organization and lead presentations.
  • Recognize the Quality Management System in place at Battle Motors and participate in the processes and procedures in the QMS ISO 9001:2015
