1946
The Beginning
Battle Motors was founded in 1946 as Crane Carrier Company (CCC). Initially focused on modifying, reinforcing, and re-manufacturing surplus military vehicles for the construction and petroleum industries, the company soon recognized the need for more specialized solutions. As market demands evolved, CCC shifted from modifying existing chassis to designing and manufacturing custom chassis tailored specifically for the mobile crane sector.
1960's
The Century Line
In the 1960's, CCC made a significant leap by introducing the Century line of chassis. This innovative line was developed to meet the unique demands of both on- and off-highway applications, including ready-mix concrete carriers and materials hauling. The Century line set new standards for quality, craftsmanship, and innovation, solidifying CCC’s reputation as a pioneer in specialized vocational trucks.
Quality, Craftsmanship and Innovation
1970's
Centurion
In 1974, CCC introduced the Centurion, the first chassis specifically designed for the waste management industry. By 1979, CCC further innovated with the Low Entry Centurion, designed for residential refuse collection. This model featured a step-in entry just 18 inches from the ground, reducing physical strain on collection crews and enhancing efficiency with its dual-steer/drive controls. Known today as the Battle One, this vehicle continues to be a key product, reflecting CCC’s longstanding commitment to the refuse industry with products that lead in reliability, innovation, and productivity.
1990's
Expansion and Military Applications
By 1995, CCC expanded into new markets, including terminal tractors. The company developed a variation of its existing chassis products, integrating proprietary technology to offer EPA/DOT certified on-highway terminal tractors. This innovation established CCC as a major supplier of "ship to shore" tractors for the U.S. Army, marking a significant milestone in the company's history.
2000's
LCF chassis
In 2000, CCC unveiled the redesigned LET2 and LCF chassis, featuring advanced technology and improved ergonomics. The new design included a deeper cabin, tilt and telescoping steering columns, and an updated HVAC system. This redesign enhanced driver comfort and efficiency, reduced noise and heat, and met the increased cooling demands of high horsepower diesel engines to comply with EPA emission standards.
Purpose Built. Quality Driven.
2010's
Strategic Alliance
In June 2013, CCC was acquired by Hines Corporation and relocated to New Philadelphia, Ohio. The merger with Kimble Manufacturing created the Hines Specialty Vehicle Group, combining expertise to manufacture custom heavy-duty chassis and purpose-built vehicles across various industries. This alliance fostered increased efficiency, technological advancements, and enhanced customer service.
2020's
